Listening to music on the way back, I was reminded (yet again) of an idea I keep having for a Carnivále fic, of all things. Whenever I hear "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves" by Cher I want to write a story set at some point in the future after the series - I have thus far held off on actually thinking too hard about it because we haven't finished watching the second/final season yet, and I have no clue how it might end. But in any case, this is the vague idea:
I seem to remember Sophie managed to get herself pregnant. Or thought she had. I totally need to watch it again. For the purposes of my idea, she gets pregnant. Even though I'm not really a Ben/Sophie shipper it works for the story, so: she has the child and through whatever process Ben and Sophie end up together and he assumes the role of being the child's father. The story would be set years later when they've broken off from the carnival-folk and started out on their own, still trying to earn a living the same way: Sophie reading people's fortunes, dancing for money, and Ben healing people.
The story itself is told through the voice of Sophie's daughter. I blame the first verse entirely, though the entire song is quite apt.
I was born in the wagon of a travelling show
My momma use to dance for the money they'd throw
Poppa would do whatever he could
Preach a little gospel
Sell a couple bottles of Dr. Good...
Because Sophie did try her hand at dancing in the series, and I think that's where it came from.
I probably won't even write it (as much as I would love to delve into the rich darkness of the series) because I don't know it well enough, but still... I like the idea. :)
Right, another day over. Just hanging around to see if there are any amendments to the urgent I just finished, and then I can go home...
