wow. i achieved stuff. go me!

today i had many goals...

1. go to university to do the following:
~find rooms and times for timetable. a simple enough job, you might think. except that they've moved the english department from floor 2 to floor 7, and some of the modules i've got written down don't seem to match those on the official timetable... not that i mind moving contexts 2 to monday afternoon if it means i get tuesday morning off, but it's the principal of the thing...
~change address at the doctor's and make an appointment. accomplished with very little hassle...
~go to pc-xchange and enquire about fixing computer and about new monitor. i have to take the computer to them so they can give me a quote. which means a taxi journey, i feel. and i should possibly tell them it's still under guarantee til october... as for the new monitor: a normal 17" will cost £125 and they don't part exchange. if i want a flat one (which i do), the 15" is £315 (which is actually more expensive than the one in comet) and i was too afraid to ask about a 17"... i may invest in the 15" flat screen if only so i have more room on the desk... i can cope with everything being tiny at the higher resolution...

it is wise to note at this stage the various other problems i encountered...

since the buses were reduced from three services to two, the old bus stop at peak court is no longer used. so i decided to walk. then realised i didn't know the way and the walkway i thought led to uni didn't, in fact, lead to uni. but i did discover another pretty factory along the way. also, it now costs a pound to get to the city centre AND peak court, thus throwing off my 'it'll be a cheaper bus fare this year' theory. well, it's nearer, i'll endeavour to walk in once i know the way...

2. go to city centre for various things:
~well, first of all i had to go home because i was bloody starving after my little walk trying to find the bus stop... then i walked to the city centre, which was easy...
~post office for television licence. it's a scary thing when you suddenly realise you've been watching television for 2 days without a licence and you could get charged £1000 for the privalege. so that's why i left today in the first place. that was easy enough...
~go to wilkinson for various kitchen items. i left my bread knife at uni when i left last year, so frell knows where that's gone. we only have one spare at home. so i needed a bread knife. and some small plates. and some more glasses. i managed this relatively cheaply and got the lot for under a tenner. then, the alarm went off as i left the store, but they let me go anyway...
~go to whsmith for stationery. the alarm went off as i entered the shop. i acquired a new folder and pencil tin and pencils. the alarm went off as i left the shop, too. bloody wilko bag...
~farmfoods for frozen. mission accomplished. i now have enough food to last for a while before i'm back on living off soup and tuna...

so all in all i got a lot done with minimal bother. tomorrow i will attempt to walk to uni, just out of interest and to see how long it takes.

oh, and to anyone i haven't yet mentioned it to: i have a biiiiiiig room *grin*

okay, so i got bored...

...and in honour of the return of the prodigal 'scape, we have a new layout. again.

except that villagephotos decided that i exceeded my daily bandwidth, even though i didn't, so the background won't show up til tomorrow. courtesy of naomi, by the way...
