Stuff...

This weekend has been quite pleasant.  Well, in the sense that I spent the majority of it online indulging the MH obsession even further, and because I didn't have to see my father today because his car refused to function, so I've kept my sanity intact for another week.

Watched about 80% of Kate & Leopold earlier (missed a bit in the middle, but got the gist of it) and thought it was quite good, if incredibly weird.  The concept's interesting, but... weird.  Also, you know you need help when you can name the fonts people use on things.  Because the letter Leopold writes was all typed nicely in the Hannibal Lecter font (which is in this mood icon, which I'm not feeling, but I'm using it purely for exampling purposes), and, incidentally, the new Mediterranean Walker's crisps use Bickley Script for their flavours.  I should know; I made my entire 'fiction' page background with it...

*ahem*  I also caught the beginning of Queen of the Damned in the hope it would make slightly more sense, and... it really doesn't.  The unfortunate result of trying to cram the events of two books into one film is that you lose most of the better book.  While it's true that The Vampire Lestat is referenced in QotD, I really hoped they'd do an actual film of it on its own rather than trying to work all of the Lestat-angst into a really quite appalling film.  It goes along far, far too fast for any proper sense to be made of Marius' origins, Lestat's own origins, or even most of the story behind Akasha herself.  I hold by my opinion that Claudia Black truly was the best thing in the entire film, and her talent was sorely wasted (though I believe she was originally meant to be a French reporter, or something, and her Pandora role was smaller... but dude, she makes a fantastic vampire lady...)

Also, I finally listened to all my music; the Rocky Horror Punk Show, and the soundtracks to Shock Treatment and Triplets of Belleville (which I have to see) both from Katie, and Seether's debut album "Disclaimer II", all of which are very good indeed.  I'm still annoyed that my bloody cassette player packed up, though. :(

Right, tomorrow I'm meant to phone the various pubs if they've not phoned me, so I'll attempt to remember to do so, and Tuesday, I have to go for my first signing on at the Job Centre.  And I still have season 5 of Angel to watch, so look out (hopefully) for reviews of same at some point...
Buffy - sanity

Dear Lord...

When I suggested a caption competition over on the MH geek community, I certainly didn't anticipate this.  Though, given what me and last_dance used to come up with for Farscape screencaps, it's hardly surprising...

I figure I owe an explanation for my actions, if possible.

For the record, I am completely against real person fanfiction, and real person pairings, mainly because I could never see the point, and because it's against all the laws of ethics in every way.  Until MH.  I don't know what it is about it that inspires this complete insanity in myself and others.  I can't explain why we're applying canon rules to it, or why the MHOTP even came about.  All I can tell you is it's harmless fun, we mean no offence to any of the crew members by it (we love them all, really...), and the moment it shows signs of getting dangerous or out of hand, I'll be the first to back away.  Maybe it's because every single member of the team, past and present, is so individual that it's very easy to forget they're real people, and especially when they're in front of the cameras and under pressure.

So, honestly, I have no excuse.  Real person fic continues to ick me out, but with Most Haunted, somehow, it's not as bad.  If anything, it's bringing people together in the most wonderful, unashamedly fun way, and that's got to be a good thing, right?
