Random - Garbo

(no subject)

Firstly, Happy Birthday (belated) to collie_wing and also to midnight_gypsy.

So, first counselling thing today.  It was... half and half, I suppose.  Apparently the fact that I know everything is futile is a positive thing as most people don't even get that far, so yay.  I appear to have thoroughly befuddled her.  Go Team Brain.  Ah, well, we shall see what the next five weeks hold.

I went straight home afterwards as the buses are still being ridiculous... or maybe it's only this week I've noticed it with my late starts... or maybe it's just my bus and all the others are a knock-on effect.  Either way, I was home just before 4.00 and have already put the first load of washing in, and it's only just turned 5.00.  I could get used to this.

I'm seriously starting to consider asking Tina H if I can reduce my hours to 30 a week instead of 36.5... I can easily get the job done in that amount of time and could work, say, 9.00-3.30 (taking half-hour of lunch into account), plus gain flex by getting in early a few days (I'm in at 8.15 or 8.30 most mornings when I get up in time).  Two weeks til my next supervision... I suppose it depends how long it'll take to sort it, as my next meeting with her is just before Christmas and I'm planning to look around a bit more after my week off.  If it'll take three months to get through management or whatever, it's probably not worth the hassle.

I need to find somewhere closer to home, which is why I've been investigating Sandwell and Dudley councils for jobs in their departments.  The only one even vaguely interesting was a museum worker at Haden Hill House, which would involve dressing up (!) and taking guests around and stuff... but as my acting skills leave a lot to be desired and the bloody place is practically inaccessible and would require about 15 buses to get there, it's not worth it.  There are ridiculously few jobs available in either council that don't involve teaching, and all the ones in BCC are... well, boring.  And in places I can't get to.

I'm keeping an eye out for stuff at the Martineau Centre or anywhere in the city centre, as either of those are much better for me to get to (especially the Martineau Centre, as it's literally up the road) and the former seems to have a fast turnover.  They had one recently for a clerk/WP-operator position (a bit like what Cynthia does in our office only for Education rather than SC&H) but it's only 6-months' cover for maternity leave...

Hopefull there'll be more after Christmas.  But anyway, I'll put it to you, the general populace: should I enquire about reducing my hours for my own sanity, or is it not worth the effort?

Seeing Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire tomorrow with venuselle at 4.30.  Whereabouts are we meeting at the AMC?  Inside or outside?  Also, my bus sucks so I'll probably be a bit late, though I'll endeavour not to be... just so you know.

OMG!! (Or: Why I Shouldn't Visit ReallyUseful.Com)

collie_wing!  If I had the money, I would so buy you this.  Seriously.

Alas, I do not.  So we're both just going to have to stare longingly at it.

I'm meant to be getting this for my mother for Christmas (or possibly the short-sleeve version, I need to ask her which she wants) and I want this one for myself. :)

Mmm, geek-flavoured.

Edit: Also, this made me giggle. I prefer the one with the logo, though. :)
