Random dream and more fic inspiration

I'm sure I had a longer dream than this, but anyway, here's the 5-minute snippet from just before I woke up.

I was at work and was approached at my desk by Ian (Senior Solicitor). He was holding a piece of paper which appeared to be a transcribed episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, except there were lots of bits missing and no character names. It was essentially a list of dialogue. (I got the impression it was done by one of the other typists, who didn’t know the character names and had missed a lot of the words out.)

He was giving it to me to see if I could make any more of it. Here's what the only bit of dialogue I remember looked like (bearing in mind there were no characters):

Out of ___________ I caught four.

*something I don't remember*

You're the Queen ____________________.

Interesting _________.

Completely nonsensical, as you can see.

I managed to turn it into what follows, after apparently watching the episode, which took place as part of the dream. The gang were in the library and it looked very season 1:

Buffy: Out of seven words, I caught four.

*bit I don't remember*

Xander: You're the Queen of the Spider-People.

Willow: Interesting lesson.

The impression I got was that Buffy was ‘teaching’ Xander something in the library.

It made far more sense in my brain this morning, believe me. The image of the Buffy episode was so clear, also, that I was half-convinced that ^ was an actual conversation between the characters.

The dream ended with Ian telling me he'd seen a seven-season Buffy boxset in America for $800, which was apparently quite reasonable...

As for the random fic inspiration, I decided last night that I should do an Ugly Betty fic to the song "Strange Glue" by Catatonia. The lyrics are:

Strange Glue

It was strange glue that held us together
While we both came apart at the seams
He said, "Your place or mine
While we've still got the time?"
So I played along with his schemes

But I dont have the right
To be with you tonight
So please leave me alone
With no saviour in sight
I will sleep safe and sound
With nobody around me

When faced with my demons
I clothe them and feed them
And I smile
As they're taking me over

And if I cannot sleep
For the secrets I keep
It's the price I'm willing to meet
Oh, the end of the night
Never comes too quickly
For me

[instrumental]

But I don't have the right
To be with you tonight
So please let me alone
With no saviour in sight
I will sleep safe and sound
With nobody around me

When faced with my demons
I clothe them and feed them
And I smile
As they're taking me over

And if I cannot sleep
For the secrets I keep
It's the prize I'm willing to steal
Oh, the end of the night
Never comes too quickly
For me
Never comes too quickly
For me

(Not exact; also the live version differs in the first verse; the original recording was "She said" and "her schemes", but it doesn't make that much difference.)

I think the writers-strike-induced haitus is starting to get to me. But yeah, I can definitely use it for a current-season fic. "Rain..." isn't set anywhere in particular, but the current events in the show , i.e. the death of Daniel's father, and Betty's short-lived relationship with Henry) would make perfect fodder for using the song.

I happened to notice this whilst listening to Winamp last night; sometimes, songs just stick out for no apparent reason, though it's nice to be getting the inspiration back again, slowly.

Which reminds me, the PC started first time and kept going until I turned it off, and I was playing online games and listening to music at the same time without it freezing. Clearly it just needed a bit of a dust. Weird thing.

We had a bit of a move around in here today. I didn't move but used all the moving as an excuse to rearrange my desk. Knackered now, though. Could quite happily have a bit of a nap...
