Last night's was so brilliant, though, I simply must share it. :D I will endeavour to start writing down what I can remember a bit more often as some of the latest dreams have been vivid along with the weirdness, and something is infinitely better than nothing. Nevertheless, here is what I remember of last night's.
My Mate Derren
As the title suggests, Derren Brown made a guest appearance.
The first thing I can remember is that he was scouting out for volunteers to test a new illusion / mind trick for his next live show. Quite how this came about I do not know, but given later events I presume he used the medium of Twitter to obtain said volunteers, and I happened to be one of them.
The trick involved something to do with a table and a cloth but beyond that I can't remember it. The basic point was that Derren had been practicing it for ages and thus had the action involved down to a fine art, but obviously his volunteers - in this instance, me - didn't have the same luxury of months of practice, so it was coming off as clunky and unrehearsed. As I say, I can't remember really what it involved except that I was sitting under the table and tugging on the cloth in some manner, but what Derren himself had perfected as a flud movement ended up being jerky and clumsy when in the hands of volunteers.
I remember clambering out from under the table and making the point to Derren that he needed to fix it somehow, because it wasn't practical to have to take half an hour out of his live show to train the volunteer in the correct procedure. He was so enlightened and impressed by this relevation that he henceforth became my best friend and would not leave me alone. :D
For the most part this involved constantly sending me tweets with new ideas for the trick, at all hours of the day. There's one part of the dream I can remember where I got home really late at night - like, early hours of the morning - and had to get the laptop out in order to see what Derren had been sending me. And at one point he sent me, by courier, a toilet roll (!) covered in lists and ideas (which must related to his "Mind Reader" show that we saw in Derby where the final bit involved him unfurling a long roll of paper containing his pre-show predictions).
I think my favourite bit was when we were sitting in a pub/bar discussing things - sitting on large wall-mounted leather sofas - and a friend from school turned up. I think it was Aisha but I can't be sure. I remember introducing them to each other in the manner of: "This is Derren - you might have seen him on television." For some reason the friend didn't think this was weird, even though she recognised him, and neither did she question why I was sitting in a pub with him.
Apart from that, there was no real substance. But it was awesome. :D I do find when I dream about random celebrities (when they are themselves, not playing other characters as in fandom dreams) they turn out to be thoroughly nice chaps (and chapettes) - in the past I have dreamt about Richard O'Brien, Faith Brown and Alan Davies - and probably several others; I seem to recall Johnny Depp too - in the same capacity. Clearly they relate to whatever I'm currently geeking over, though the same is not really true of Derren Brown. I follow him on Twitter burt I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan.
Anyway, it was very enjoyable. :)
Here's hoping I can start remembering my dreams more properly now. As I say, I've had a few strange visions of late but nothing concrete. I generally dislike the dry periods, and they seem to occur when I'm especially stressed and trying to get through things without committing homicide, which seems a fair reaction, but I'd rather my brain sorted the problems out through dreams instead. I would even prefer the recurring nightmare themes (such as being chased / trying to escape) to barren nothingness.
So, yes. There we go. Hopefully more to come if I remember to write them down. (Waking up with migraines doesn't really help, to be honest...)
In other news, Project Fitness is now underway, of sorts. We didn't manage to go swimming on Sunday as we ended up sleeping in until half-eleven - clock changes notwithstanding - so we obviously needed the sleep catch-up. It was nice to have a quiet weekend for a change, though. We stocked up on mixed salad and dressings (and bacon bits and crispy onions) in order to make lunches, and on Sunday night we were terribly organised and made roast duck salads (using the leftovers from dinner) to take in to work on Monday. And of course we both left them behind, so they had to be thrown away.
Today we have chicken caesar of a sorts, although I forgot to make any croutons last night to go in them.
We did, however, manage to get to the gym last night - and subsequently ruined the hour of hard work by going to McDonalds as Paul was en route to Broken Amp - and my arms and legs all hurt, so I'm taking that as a positive sign. No more excuses now, twice a week and swimming at weekends and sensible eating habits. YES. Today I have my (possibly too small) salad and an apple and a clementine and I will get a healthy yogurt at lunchtime too. I CAN DO THIS.
Next week I will start a food diary and keep track of my calorie intake daily and weight on a weekly basis, now that I have floors that are actually level on which to place my scales. I was doing really well last January (as in 2011) but then became disheartened when I realised the bathroom and kitchen floors were both so uneven as to give me five separate readings on each occasion.
So yes. I will try not to bore people with updates but cannot promise anything. :P
